Summer Concert Date : Saturday 25 May 2024 at 7.30pm Venue : Sherbrooke Mosspark Church, Glasgow Conductor - Robert Baxter Leader - Hazel McDonald Programme J C Bach - Sinfonia in Bb Brahms - Variations on a Theme of Haydn Vivaldi - Concerto for two trumpets Soloists - Mark Elwis & Chris Liddell Haydn - Symphony No 101 ‘Clock’
Our final concert for this season again features the trumpet, but this time in stereo! The Vivaldi concerto for two trumpets was his one any only concerto for this instrument but is full of bright fanfares and fast interplay between the instruments. Opening our concert is JC Bach’s Sinfonia in B Flat, a bright and cheerful work befitting the (hopefully) summer setting of our final concert. The Brahms Haydn Variations is a set of variations based on the well known St Anthony Chorale theme originally attributed to Haydn, but now thought not to be his work at all! Eight variations and a Finale follow this theme, each displaying a different musical style, and culminating in a Finale which itself comprises a theme and set of variations. The big work in our second half is really by Haydn, and is his well-known ‘Clock’ symphony No 101, named as such for the tick-tock style of the second movement. We hope you will enjoy our concert, once again in the beautiful surroundings of Sherbrooke Mosspark Church.
